Note: This website has been unfortunately neglected for years now, and is now woefully out of date. When I have some free time, I will update the site -- I promise! :-)
I'm currently a undergraduate double majoring in Computer Science and Cognitive Science (Psychology Concentration) at UC Berkeley.
I sing in an a capella group named Artists In Resonance. Pictures, videos, and audio clips are available on their site. Although not quite in the same shape as my younger years (a phrase for the ages!), I enjoy playing sports. Unfortunately, due to difficulty in coordinating schedules with others, the list of activities I've been able to do with any regularity has whittled down to biking, tennis, and hiking, some rock climbing. I also like to take pictures. Most of the pictures I've taken in the last few years can be viewed in the Photo Library section of the website. I also have an avid interest in technology, both in technical implementation and the effect upon society. Although there has been much technical progress made over the years, it is well understood that the current laws and methods of dealing with fundamental issues such as ownership and freedom of speech are woefully inadequate. This has created the current atmosphere of rampant litigation and knee-jerk laws (c.f. the DMCA) which crudely attempt to map traditional laws created for tangible environments and objects to an abstract virtual world filled with ideas and bits. Clearly, there must be a new set of rules and laws, whether extensions of current ideas or created anew with an equitable eye. Unfortunately, this requires that policymakers have a strong understanding of technology in both its effects and its limitations, something which is sorely lacking in today's leadership. It is my belief that by exposing more individuals to technology and by highlighting its effects, individuals will be better informed and better judges of issues currently being grappled with by our government. |
